Despite thousands of layoffs ahead of and during the harshest recession in two generations, high technology remains a significant contributor to Idaho’s economy, according to a report released today by the Idaho Department of Labor.
Despite an employment contraction that began in 2007 at Micron Technology Inc. and washed through the industry, high-tech still accounted for 7 percent of both total employment and business establishments in Idaho in 2008 and, more importantly, 17 percent of total wages. Read more ... or
Twenty-eight Idaho counties saw seasonally adjusted unemployment rates rise from June to July, but a marked decline in the rate for the five-county Boise metropolitan area – combined with more modest declines in Twin Falls and Nez Perce counties – offset those increases to keep the statewide rate steady at 8.8 percent. Under section 203(b)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. §1153(b)(5), 10,000 immigrant visas per year are available to qualified individuals seeking permanent resident status on the basis of their engagement in a new commercial enterprise. Permanent EB-5 resident status is available to investors, either alone or coming with their spouse and unmarried children. Eligible aliens are those who have invested – or are actively in the process of investing – the required amount of capital into a new commercial enterprise that they have established. They must further demonstrate that this investment will benefit the United States economy and create the requisite number of full-time jobs for qualified persons within the United States.
