Minidoka County

Minidoka County Labor Market Information

The population of Minidoka County has declined moderately from 1997 dropping from 20,495 to 18,564 in 2007 for a 9.4 percent decrease. The area traditionally is heavily dependent upon agriculture and food processing jobs and while these are still important components of the economy, there has been recent diversification. Wages have leaned toward the low end which had been a challenge in attracting new residents. However, it has worked in their favor in attracting new businesses that are willing to pay higher wages than the area has seen in recent years, as well as, provide needed health benefits. Recent business relocations should turn around the decline in population, plus the quality of life and nearby recreation is drawing new residents to homes along the Snake River or in the new subdivisions being developed.
