Owyhee County Labor Market Information
|
|
Owyhee County is the second largest and the 25th most populous of Idaho’s 44 counties. Owyhee County has one of the lowest population densities in the state, and more than three-quarters of the county is federally owned. As with most counties in southwestern Idaho, Owyhee County’s population has been steadily increasing over the past decade, rising from 10,110 in 1997 to 10,835 in 2007. The increase of 725 represents a 7.2 percent growth rate, down from the 12.8 percent growth rate of 1996 to 2006. Due to the large federal land holdings and the fairly remote locations of this largely agricultural county, population growth has been slower in Owyhee County than in surrounding areas. The western portion of the county is where the majority of residents live.
